The Australian Elections Database
The Australian Elections Database has been developed by Campbell Sharman, Jeremy Moon and colleagues at the University of Western Australia, drawing on earlier work by Colin Hughes and colleagues at the ANU Research School of Social Sciences. The AED website has been created by Campbell Sharman to draw together materials on elections, candidates, parties and other characteristics of Australian parliamentary politics and elections into an integrated resource for researchers. A description of this website and the database on which it is based can be found in the publication by Campbell Sharman, 'A Web-based Database on Australian Government and Politics', Australian Journal of Political Science, 37(2) July 2002, 347-351.
This collection of studies provides access to extracts from the AED database to provide both online tabulations and statistical data files for use by researchers in political science research. The studies included here provide summary details of the results of state assembly (lower house) general elections since 1890 (New South Wales and Tasmania since 1856), and territory assembly general elections since the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory gained self-government.
